I know it’s my job to compare musical acts and try to paint a picture as to what they are doing so that you can go and buy the record and check them out, but every now and again artists are beyond just one genre and above any simple terminology. It’s paying disservice for me to call the latest release from 2KX anything other than a masterpiece. Fronted by Lisa LaRue, this is a release of progressive rock and is like nothing I’ve heard in a long time. Yes, there are other prog rock bands out there, but this release is a cataclysmic exemplification of art, and not just music. With the release of “Sussuration”, you get elements of every type of musical genre, but it’s like a work of art, seamless in the integral elements that make this worth picking up. Jason Mark Yates Mixes Folk With Pop Sensibilities In Beautiful Compositions

Jason Mark yates is a singer and songwriter that does both things in a very eclectic way. He does so through the union of poetry and music, unlike what you would expect. Mixing elements from the 1980s and fusing emotional connections through lyricism and steady melody, Yates introduces the listener to a cycle of different moments that truly are captivating. When you listen to some of his songs, you truly get different layers of sound, and style, mixed into his vocal style and musical steps. This is most evident in his UK Songwriting Contest Finalist song, “Reachin Out” which blends the power of David Bowie and adds U2 flavor to a steadier and heart felt song that is neither one of the two but rather something altogether unique. Charlie Leavy Creates An Emphatic Alternative EP With The Best Damn Ride

I never know what to expect from independent artists, as I’ve heard a lot of bad in my day. Charlie Leavy is one of those stand outs, that you aren’t sure about until you actually listen. It was with the release of “The Best Damn Ride” EP that I was floored by the talented artist. With the first track of “The Way Life Is”, you get completely thrown into a world that is a mirror of life. The lyrics are of wisdom and honor, a reflection of society, the same kind of candor that you would expect from a veteran soul artist. It’s sung and played with precision and it creates a nice spectrum to give you an idea of what the artist is all about. It’s with that opener that Charlie Leavy won me, it’s a strong opener. The rest of the EP is solid, with “Tongue Tied”, “Summers Day Runaway”, “Falter baby” and “Running My Mouth”.
