Sell Out Records - A Music Review Blog

I’m always fascinated by people that overprice punk rock and hardcore records. I’m guilty of this too, because in 2011 I sold a lot of my Blink 182 original pressings for $150 - $500 each. However, they only pressed 1,500 of those suckers and I was one of the few people that were able to gain several copies of each one. Plus, I was going through some hard times in what I sometimes refer to as Hell, USA. Oh, that’s Moscow, Idaho. Anyways, The Humpers may not be a band that you know or even like but it’s definitely a group of guys that play a brand of rock that you may love. I for one love their punk rock sounds, and they can definitely bring the noise fast. On the “Live Forever or Die Trying” they have one of the best songs ever put out. It’s called “Soul Surgeon” and for that one single I would drop $500 on the vinyl record. It would be absolutely stupid to spend that kind of money on a record. I’ve been sleeping later these days. My girlfriend has been coming home late and I have been staying up to write a lot of different things, including things on this page. Well, I was watching some late night program, one that I can’t remember the name of and Switchfoot was the special guest . I was in a dreamy haze and my head fell off my hands, where I usually cradle it to sleep at night. My face hit the floor and Switchfoot took the late night stage to play this latest single from their record “Fading West” which you can download here . The song is reminiscent of new standards in the Christian world, with musicians growing up on Christian pop and alternative, creating sounds that sound very much like this single. Hands raised, hands clapping, lyrics that mean so much more than what you think they mean, and unbroken by the traditional fist raised in defiance. I saw the new Korn video recently and was completely amused. The video showcases a much lighter, and radio friendly Korn than we have seen in recent years. I laughed out loud, and nearly shed a tear from the track that had Jonathan Davis talking about how he would never love again. Surprisingly enough Brian “Head” Welch, Monkey, and Fieldy were all there, in a new phase of the band that has me wondering if the 90s are back in full swing. This comes after the fact that Alice In Chains has released a new record , I have rediscovered my absolute adoration of Mad Season, and Pearl Jam just released a new record as well. Whatever is going on with rock music today, it’s not being pushed out by Kroq and 98.7 FM which is too bad. I have been listening to 95.5 KLOS (the classic rock) a lot more.  Nirvana MTV Unplugged in New York Review

Neil Young and Crazy Horse by far outranks most other classic rock bands ever. I hate the term sometimes because rock is so much more than just a simple phrase or genre. Neil Young as a song writer has impressed me so many times, and if you aren’t a fan, you just might be after you hear this song. I admit, I didn’t hear this song until I was watching “Sons of Anarchy”. The show was having one of their amazing sequences where the main characters were reflecting on what was going on with emotions running high. The drama really goes into a tailspin at times with musical narratives and montages paving the way to tear jerking scenes, and well, “My My, Hey Hey” was one of the most compelling pieces I recall from the show, even if it was a cover. For those that haven’t heard the song, Neil Young and Crazy Horse released it on their record “Rust Never Sleeps” album.
