A Tribe Called Quest People’s Instinctive Travels and Paths of Rhythm (25th Anniversary Edition) Review

Image
A Tribe Called Quest People’s Instinctive Travels and Pathsof Rhythm (25th Anniversary Edition)  “Can I Kick It?” is the stand out song that I recall from Tribe. It has been 25 years since the hip hop group threw this out to the masses. With the anniversary here, the group has decided to re-release the record and has been received very well. You may already have this record, as I have purchased it several times time in my day. However, today, it just feels like a new day, because the recording is a bit crisper than I remember. Perhaps it’s due in large part to the fact that A Tribe Called Quest has grown up , or my audio recording devices are light years away from where it was in 1990 when I first got a hold of this record on cassette tape. With the release of this special edition, you are going to get the original release, plus a few remixes, new artwork and more. There are 17 tracks found on this record, with over an hour of samples, rhymes, and the thing that you expect ...

Dinosaur Jr. Without A Sound Creates Sonic Noise Today More Than Ever Before

Image
When Dinosaur Jr. released “Without A Sound” I didn’t listen. It was 1997 and I was only 14 years old. I didn’t listen because I was too busy trying to collect the most punk rock cassette tapes and vinyl records that I could get my grubby hands on. I missed the boat in 1997, but have recently rediscovered the band, no thanks to WCW professional wrestler Raven. The band hit the studio in 1994 and came out with one hell of a record that is violent at times, emotional at times, and rivals any release that came out in 1994. That’s right, ANY alternative record can go toe to toe with Dinosaur Jr. “Without A Sound” and get a shot at glory. Six albums into their career, the band really came across with a polished sound. The guitar driven record sits well with alternative rockers, but it’s the melodic drumming and precision bass lines that really capture the essence of the bands rollercoaster. It is definitely defined through the opening track “Feel The Pain”, which landed the band on the B...

The Huntingtons Get Lost Got Lost In The Shuffle of 1999 Ramones Punk Bands

Image
I recall seeing The Huntingtons at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. They played with The Dingees to a crowd of around 100 people, if that. It was a random Thursday night, and I noticed that they didn’t have the cult following that I saw them playing front of in 2002. I went to Cornerstone Festival 2002, and saw a massive crowd go nuts for the band, but on this random Thursday in Hollywood, they couldn’t draw flies. Then again, 100 people isn’t half bad, right? I didn’t stick around for the whole performance, but they were promoting “Get Lost” a 13 track opus of Ramones-esque punk rock that should’ve been their big break. It wasn’t. In fact, no one that I’ve talked to online or offline knows anything about this band. They are not exactly high on the list of this style of music, even though they performed with Joey Ramone and have one of the best cover-albums of Ramones tunes in the world. Yeah, I said it. Despite their high quality sound, and attempts to emulate the mighty New York p...

The Ultimate Way To Get Green Day's Dookie is on 180 Gram Vinyl

Image
If you call yourself a music fan and you haven’t either purchased a copy of “Dookie” or at least heard the songs from the record at nausea, then you probably aren’t much of a music fan at all. The band sold as many records as Michael Jackson did, making this mid 1990s record one of the most famous of all time. However, upon the original release through Reprise and Lookout Records the LP/Vinyl version was just standard (amongst some other color options) and that didn’t sit well with the band or the fans. Sure, they bought the record, but after some time it was necessary to release an 180g Vinyl lp of “Dookie” . That’s what I got my grubby hands on recently and am posing it here for you to consider purchasing. The record, first of all, is considerably heavier, and sounds 100 times better than the original release. Features This record is 33 1/3 LP and it is 180 grams of wax. If you’re a collector or just prefer to listen to music on wax, then this is for you because it is considerab...

The Greatest Alternative Music Soundtrack Ever or At Least The Mid 90s

Image
The 90s were an interesting time to be alive. If you loved music, you got pummeled in the face with all the different styles that you could possibly imagine. Unlike any other time, it seemed like you couldn’t get away from the distortion pedal music that filled the airwaves. That is where the year 1995 lands, a mix up of distorted ideals, where Gen X started to realize that their lives couldn’t be so extreme forever. Amidst all that realization came out a movie that had every teenager (including myself) completely blown away. It was the best movie no one saw, and it was right along the same lines as “The Mighty Ducks” and even better, the soundtrack was incredible. That movie, and that soundtrack is none other than “ANGUS” . The movie aside, this film had an incredible soundtrack of music from Reprise Records, and to this day is the #1 alternative music soundtrack ever created. I say that, no one else may agree, but it went Gold, and by now it’s probably platinum. I even bought the...

Original Pressing of The Decline Not Worth 500 Bucks or Is It?

Image
Another antiquated poste from the past is here and that's because I am moving different things around from the backend. I wrote this a couple of years ago, I think. I may have still been living in Idaho and hating life. I then moved this to a number of blogs before finding a home here. It's an interesting record that I liked at the time. I don't know if it's nearly as good as I remember it, but I do recall the record only has 1 track. Anyways, here is the original posting, and well, enjoy it. I was cruising ebay the other day and ran into an interesting auction. It was for Nofx’s 1999 pressing of “The Decline” . Now, the Decline is an interesting record all alone, but this particular vinyl record caught my eye. Let’s talk “The Decline” then talk about the record. Nofx The Decline Nofx released a one track album/ep called The Decline. This album was not one of my favorites when it came out. In fact, I was one of the people that soured on their style upon the rele...
