Music Reviews From Sir Jorge

It is my intention to track through all of the music that has been a part of my life, and that’s not an easy task. I have been involved with listening to music for as long as I can remember, and at one point in my life I even started a record label. It was formed out of the need to get a job, and the end of the band that my friends and I failed to get rolling. It was an odd venture, one where we had record label interest before even writing a full song, and some of the best times of my life. Although, there were some tumultuous things about that time frame, it remains part of a fond collection of memories.

Reject 37 Records was an ill-fated attempt to get into a scene that I wasn’t ready to be in. I still hold on to a lot of those memories and while I don’t ever talk to or see many of the people that made that whole experience worth mentioning today, I recall doing something that other critics can’t say they have done.

The music reviews that you read here are all from discs that I own or have legally downloaded. I recommend purchasing them with the links provided, and supporting the artist however you can.

2KX Create A Lavish Musical Framework Beyond Comparison

I know it’s my job to compare musical acts and try to paint a picture as to what they are doing so that you can go and buy the record and check them out, but every now and again artists are beyond just one genre and above any simple terminology. It’s paying disservice for me to call the latest release from 2KX anything other than a masterpiece. Fronted by Lisa LaRue, this is a release of progressive rock and is like nothing I’ve heard in a long time. Yes, there are other prog rock bands out there, but this release is a cataclysmic exemplification of art, and not just music. With the release of “Sussuration”, you get elements of every type of musical genre, but it’s like a work of art, seamless in the integral elements that make this worth picking up. I was floored by the pieces, and really found myself in awe at the precision at which every element comes together. SweetEve Bring On A Rocking Sound Worth Your Time

I was able to take a listen to the latest tracks from SweetEve and they definitely have a bright future ahead of them. They are a band that fuses together pop sensibilities with rocking tunes, and killer bass lines. Mixing the same type of rock that makes the Foo Fighters and Goo Goo Dolls (circa Boy Named Goo) great bands, this rock band is trying to tread new routes towards stardom. From the first notes on “Guilty Victim” you get a feel for the music, but it’s not until you hit the guitar solo that you really get a sense of urgency from the band. They build up to it and when it hits, it really gets your toes tapping. Lyrical strong, and overall a catchy tune, SweetEve is quality rock and roll done right. It’s still a bit raw on the recording, but that’s ok, they are up and coming and the tracks represent a good beginning to what very well may be one of the bands of the future.
