2000s punk rock surge, delivered an album that resonates through time for its
raw energy and candid socio-political commentary. "Open Your Eyes,"
released in 2002, stands as a testament to the band's evolution and their
commitment to blending infectious punk rock melodies with thought-provoking
lyrics. It's an album that not only makes you want to jump around in the mosh
pit but also compels you to reflect on the world around you.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Open Your Eyes" marks a significant pivot in
Goldfinger's musical journey, integrating their punk rock roots with a
polished, more mature sound. The album unfurls a tapestry of energetic guitar
riffs, compelling drum beats, and John Feldmann’s distinctive vocals, creating
a sound that's both familiar and refreshingly innovative. It's an album that
bridges the gap between the rebellious spirit of punk and the conscious
awareness of global issues, resonating with fans who seek depth and dynamism in
their music.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The musicality of "Open Your Eyes" is a masterful
blend of classic punk rock elements and a spectrum of other genres, pushing the
boundaries of what punk can be. Tracks like “Spokesman” burst with high-octane
energy and straightforward riffs, reminiscent of punk's early days. Yet, songs
such as "January," with its melodic harmonies and reflective tone,
showcase the band's versatility and willingness to experiment. The production,
helmed by Feldmann himself, is crisp and meticulously crafted, ensuring that each
song delivers its message with clarity and force.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Goldfinger's "Open Your Eyes" is as much a lyrical
journey as it is a musical one. The album peels back layers of societal
veneers, exposing the raw, often uncomfortable truths beneath. The title track,
“Open Your Eyes,” serves as a clarion call for awareness and action against
animal cruelty, emblematic of the band’s advocacy for social and political
issues. Meanwhile, tracks like “Decision” navigate personal introspection and
the complexity of human relationships, adding a deeply personal dimension to
the album.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">While each track holds its own, certain songs stand out for
their poignant messages and compelling composition. “Open Your Eyes” not only
sets the thematic tone of the album but does so with a relentless, driving
rhythm that captures the urgency of its message. “Spokesman” hits hard with its
critique of the music industry’s superficiality, wrapped in catchy hooks that
make the medicine go down with a dose of head-banging energy. And “January”
showcases the band's softer side, a contemplative piece that juxtaposes
vulnerability with the album's otherwise robust sound.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Upon its release, "Open Your Eyes" was met with
acclaim for its unapologetic approach to blending punk rock with a message.
Critics praised the album for its straightforward yet innovative approach to
music and its ability to convey meaningful messages without sacrificing the raw
energy that defines punk rock. Today, the album stands as a hallmark in
Goldfinger's discography, embodying the era's spirit and continuing to inspire
a new generation of punk rock enthusiasts.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Open Your Eyes" is more than just an album; it's
a bold statement wrapped in a whirlwind of punk rock fervor. Its blend of
high-energy punk, poignant lyrics, and the band's undeniable talent makes it a
must-listen for anyone who cherishes music with a message. Whether you're a
long-time fan or a newcomer to the punk rock scene, "Open Your Eyes"

monuments to the genre's dynamism and emotional rawness. Yellowcard's
"Ocean Avenue," released in 2003, is one such landmark. Emerging
during a time when punk rock was morphing and finding new avenues, Yellowcard
brought a refreshing vigor and a distinctive sound to the table. "Ocean
Avenue," with its vibrant energy, intricate lyricism, and innovative
instrumentation, didn’t just encapsulate the zeitgeist of early 2000s punk
rock; it helped define it.<o:p></o:p><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>The Emblem of a Genre: "Ocean Avenue" in Punk
Rock Pantheon<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Ocean Avenue" arrives not just as an album but as
a statement, a finely crafted blend of angst, youthful exuberance, and musical
complexity. It stands as a testament to the era, representing not just a sonic
evolution but also a narrative depth that resonates deeply with its audience.
The album's sound, characterized by a harmonious blend of aggressive guitar
riffs, fast-paced drumming, and the unexpected yet brilliantly integrated
violin, sets it apart from its contemporaries. While bands like Blink-182 and
Green Day were carving their niches with distinctive sounds, Yellowcard’s
"Ocean Avenue" carved its own with a melodious yet assertive style,
making it a touchstone for the punk rock aficionados.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Lyrical Depth and Narrative<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The lyrical prowess of "Ocean Avenue" is
undeniable, offering a rich tapestry of emotions and stories that resonate
deeply with the listener. The album navigates through themes of love, loss,
longing, and the turbulence of youth, painting vivid pictures with its words.
The title track, "Ocean Avenue," for instance, is more than just a
nostalgic recall of youthful love; it's an anthem for the yearning and the
bittersweet sting of memories. The lyrics across the album are introspective,
often introspective and personal, making them relatable to a generation
grappling with similar issues. This narrative strength is a hallmark of
Yellowcard's work, allowing them to connect with their audience on a profound
level.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Instrumentation and Musicality<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Musically, "Ocean Avenue" is a vibrant mosaic,
showcasing Yellowcard's ability to fuse the raw energy of punk rock with
sophisticated musical elements. The band's use of the violin, played by Sean
Mackin, is not just unique; it's revolutionary for the genre. It adds a layer
of depth and emotion to the tracks that is rarely seen in punk rock, elevating
the album's overall sound. The guitar work, characterized by its energetic
riffs and melodic solos, complements the powerful drumming, creating a sound
that is infectious and invigorating. Tracks like "Breathing" and
"Way Away" exemplify the band’s musical versatility, moving from
high-energy verses to more melodic, introspective choruses seamlessly.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Standout Tracks and Their Impact<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">While "Ocean Avenue" is a cohesive narrative and
musical journey, several tracks stand out, each contributing uniquely to the
album's overarching theme. "Only One" is a poignant ballad that
showcases the band's softer side, both lyrically and musically, while
"Believe" serves as a powerful tribute to the heroes of 9/11,
reflecting the band's depth and societal awareness. "Life of a
Salesman" and "Miles Apart" offer a more introspective look into
personal relationships and the struggles therein. Each track, while distinct in
its tone and story, complements the others, making the album a well-rounded
portrayal of life's myriad hues.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Legacy and Lasting Influence<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Nearly two decades since its release, "Ocean
Avenue" continues to resonate with fans and artists alike, its influence
echoing through the punk rock scene and beyond. The album did not just capture
the spirit of its time; it helped shape the musical landscape that followed.
Its innovative fusion of traditional punk elements with the violin and its
emotionally charged narrative set a new benchmark for the genre. Today,
"Ocean Avenue" is not just remembered as a high point of Yellowcard's
career but as a defining moment in punk rock history, inspiring a new
generation of musicians and fans to explore and express their own stories with
authenticity and passion.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><a href="https://amzn.to/48WUcOX">"Ocean Avenue" is more than an album</a>; it's a
journey through the highs and lows of life, encapsulating the essence of a
generation. Yellowcard’s masterpiece stands the test of time, not only due to
its innovative sound and heartfelt lyrics but also because of its ability to
connect with listeners on a deeply personal level. For those who have lived

Comfortable</b><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">When NOFX released "Ribbed" back in 1991, they
weren't just releasing an album; they were issuing a challenge to the punk rock
status quo. Imagine a world where leather jackets are paired with clown noses,
and mosh pits are filled with inflatable hammers. That's the "Ribbed"
universe – a punk rock album that refuses to take itself too seriously,
insisting that you do the same.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>The Soundtrack to Your Questionable Life Choices<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Ribbed" kicks off with "Green Corn," a
track that sets the tone faster than a teenager's mood swing. The song is a
frenetic, fast-paced welcome mat to the album, daring you to keep up with its
tempo. Then comes "The Moron Brothers," an ode to those friends we
all have who, let's face it, aren't winning any Nobel Prizes soon but sure make
life interesting.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">But it's not just the lyrics that slap you with a slice of
pizza to the face; it's the music too. The melodies are catchier than a cold in
winter, and the beats are more infectious than the chickenpox. Each track feels
like NOFX took traditional punk rock, fed it a sugar cube, and let it loose in
a china shop.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Lyrics: Like Shakespeare, But with More Beer and Less
Subtlety<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If Shakespeare was a punk rocker who traded his quill for a
guitar, his sonnets might sound a lot like the lyrics of "Ribbed."
Take "New Boobs," a thoughtful, poignant ballad that... who are we
kidding? It's about plastic surgery, and it's as subtle as a brick to the face.
But that's the charm of NOFX – they say what we're all thinking but are too
polite to say out loud.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">And then there's "Together on the Sand." Who said
punk rockers can't be romantic? Sure, it might be the type of romance that
involves cheap wine and even cheaper aftershave, but it's romance nonetheless.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Conclusion: Embrace the Chaos<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In "Ribbed," NOFX invites you to a party where the
punch is spiked with satire, and the snacks are served with a side of sarcasm.
It's an album that doesn't just walk the line between genius and insanity – it
does the conga over it. So, if you're looking to soundtrack your next bad
decision or just want to let loose and embrace the chaos, "Ribbed"
might just be your vinyl soulmate.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">And remember, in the immortal words of NOFX, <a href="https://amzn.to/4bewcZu">"Life's a
beach and then you pass out on the sand."</a> So why not do it with the <a href="https://amzn.to/4bewcZu">punk
rock soundtrack that "Ribbed" provides</a>?<o:p></o:p></p>Sir Jorge Ordunahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12538889001050034217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2365265692104760539.post-15487926385841965752024-01-26T07:22:00.000-08:002024-01-26T07:22:55.470-08:00Alkaline Trio Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs Review<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl0f07FrkJ1gxr0v0yxfatT_DGl1HMcFf-RMGV_I89jO0ZK26JavUQ9gh1qXgA_tuflKuorz-LoTXBSSjyBzGMjOzfAQMf5o8ShEY86BQZARbtHZFtPfG_i7mcYYKRPkhnJKE2KrVdIzYCicqI6F-w9rfrTLw59h7uVkuQdx2spoUEByDlS_qsiYIUQRrD/s300/alkalinetrio1x.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Alkaline Trio Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs" border="0" data-original-height="300" data-original-width="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl0f07FrkJ1gxr0v0yxfatT_DGl1HMcFf-RMGV_I89jO0ZK26JavUQ9gh1qXgA_tuflKuorz-LoTXBSSjyBzGMjOzfAQMf5o8ShEY86BQZARbtHZFtPfG_i7mcYYKRPkhnJKE2KrVdIzYCicqI6F-w9rfrTLw59h7uVkuQdx2spoUEByDlS_qsiYIUQRrD/s16000/alkalinetrio1x.jpg" title="Alkaline Trio Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">In a scene that's teeming with bands that rise and fall like
the fleeting notes of a punk rock song, Alkaline Trio has consistently held the
torch high, casting an eerie glow with their distinct brand of music. Their
latest offering, "Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs," isn't just another
album; it's a compendium of stories, a fusion of raw emotion and musical
prowess. It's a journey through time, a dive into the depths of the human
psyche, and a candid reflection on life's darker shades.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Hot for Preacher" – A Fiery Sermon in Song<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Kicking off the album is "Hot for Preacher," a
track that sets the tone for the entire record. It’s a song that grabs you by
the collar and demands attention. The trio's signature blend of fast-paced
riffs and dark, evocative lyrics are on full display here, creating a whirlwind
of emotions. The track is a testament to the band's ability to blend the gritty
essence of punk with lyrical depth that goes beyond mere rebellion.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Meet Me" – An Invitation to Introspection<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In "Meet Me," the band takes a slightly slower
pace but maintains the intensity. The song serves as an invitation, a call to
look within and face our own versions of reality. The melodic interplay between
the bass and guitar, coupled with the introspective lyrics, make this track a
standout. It's not just a song; it's a dialogue between the band and the
listener, a shared experience that's both personal and universal.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Versions of You" – The Duality of Existence<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Versions of You" strikes a chord with anyone
who's ever pondered their own identity. The song delves into the concept of
self, the masks we wear, and the faces we show to the world. Musically, it's a
perfect blend of melody and mayhem, a sonic representation of the internal
conflicts we all face. The track is a highlight, showcasing the band's ability
to craft songs that are not only catchy but also carry profound meaning.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Bad Time" – The Anthem of Angst<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Bad Time" is quintessential Alkaline Trio. It's
fast, it's loud, and it's unapologetically raw. The track captures the essence
of punk – the angst, the energy, and the indomitable spirit. It's a song that
resonates with the rebel in all of us, a reminder that it's okay to feel, to
scream, and to be unabashedly alive.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Scars" – A Melodic Memento of Past Battles<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">With "Scars," the band slows down the tempo but
not the intensity. The song is a melodic memento of the battles we've fought,
the wounds we've borne, and the strength we've found. It's a poignant reminder
that our experiences, however painful, shape who we are. The track's haunting
melody lingers long after the last note fades, a testament to the band's
ability to create music that touches the soul.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Break" – A Sonic Respite<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Break" is aptly named, offering a moment of
respite in the midst of the album's relentless energy. It's a song that
showcases the band's versatility, their ability to switch gears without losing
momentum. The track is a breather, a moment to collect our thoughts before
plunging back into the fray.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Shake With Me" – A Rhythmic Rebellion<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Shake With Me" is a rhythmic rebellion, a call to
arms against the monotony of everyday life. The song is a reminder to move, to
feel, and to embrace the chaos of existence. It's a track that refuses to be
ignored, a pulsating heart in the body of the album.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs" – The Eponymous
Epic<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The title track, "Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs," is
the album's epicenter, a convergence of everything Alkaline Trio stands for.
It's dark, it's daring, and it's deeply introspective. The song is a narrative,
a collection of stories woven into a tapestry of sound. It's the band at their
best – raw, real, and relentlessly honest.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Hinterlude" – An Interlude with Intent<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Hinterlude" serves as a brief intermission, a
moment to reflect on the journey thus far. It's a testament to the band's
understanding of pacing and dynamics, their ability to create an album that's
not just a collection of songs, but a cohesive narrative.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Broken Down in a Time Machine" – A Trip
through Time and Memory<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Broken Down in a Time Machine" is a trip through
time and memory, a song that resonates with the nostalgia and the longing for
days gone by. The track is a blend of melancholy and melody, a reminder that
while we can't relive the past, we can certainly revisit it through music.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Teenage Heart" – A Fitting Finale<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Closing the album is "Teenage Heart," a track that
encapsulates the spirit of the record. It's a song that speaks to the teenager
in all of us, the part that's still wild, still dreaming, and still yearning
for more. It's a fitting finale to an album that's not just a collection of
tracks, but a journey through the myriad shades of human experience.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>"Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs" – A Sonic Saga<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs" is more than just an
album; it's a sonic saga, a narrative woven through melody and lyrics. Alkaline
Trio has once again proven their prowess, not just as musicians, but as
storytellers of the human condition. In a world that's constantly changing,
their music remains a constant – a beacon for those who dare to feel, to
question, and to live with unabashed intensity.<o:p></o:p></p>

in Drublic" is a record that doesn't just play in the background; it grabs
you by the collar and demands your attention. Released in 1994, this album
didn't just define an era; it became the soundtrack for a generation of punk
rock enthusiasts who were looking for something raw, real, and relatable.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Punk in Drublic" wasn't just another album drop
in the ocean of punk rock; it was a tidal wave that reshaped the landscape.
Upon its release, it achieved immediate acclaim, meshing catchy riffs with
satirical and often introspective lyrics. Unlike its predecessors, this album
wasn't just noise and rebellion; it was a crafty narrative wrapped in a blanket
of hardcore punk melodies. From the raw edges of "Linoleum" to the
rhythmic pulses of "The Brews," each track offers a unique window
into the ethos of 90s punk culture.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><a href="https://amzn.to/3vO3ZbA">Diving into "Punk in Drublic,"</a> each track serves
not just as a song but as a story, a punchy narrative echoing the sentiments of
a disenchanted youth. "Linoleum" kicks off with its infectious riff
and candid lyrics, encapsulating the essence of punk life – a blend of apathy
and deep introspection. Meanwhile, "Leave It Alone" accelerates the
pace, coupling speedy guitar work with lyrics that speak to the core of
personal freedom and the urge to break free from societal norms.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Dig" takes a jab at corporate manipulation,
wrapped in a melody that's as catchy as it is confrontational. The genius of
NOFX lies in their ability to fuse the raw, unpolished energy of punk with a
level of lyrical sophistication that invites you to think while you thrash.
"The Brews" stands out with its anthemic quality, a nod to the punk
community, resonating with anyone who's ever felt part of a counter-culture
movement.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Punk in Drublic" did more than just fill record
stores; it invaded the airwaves and etched itself into the fabric of punk
culture. Its release marked a shift, where punk was no longer seen as just a
fad but a legitimate musical and cultural movement. NOFX brought punk into
broader daylight, without sacrificing the raw, unfiltered essence of the genre.
The album's success paved the way for punk rock to enter mainstream
consciousness, inspiring a wave of bands and fans to embrace their unorthodox
identity with pride.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As "Punk in Drublic" continues to spin on

<p class="MsoNormal">From the beginning of the record, “Against the Grain” brings
about a premium of punk rock ethos. “Modern Man” encapsulates the general idea
of Bad Religion in such a good way, that you’ll immediately latch on to what
they are doing on the track, as well as what is to come throughout the record itself.
This was the seventh record to be put out by the band, and it was a
continuation of their punk rock tuneage. The tracks are blistering, and the lyrics
are poignant, without losing a pop influence here and there. Even though I say
that, it doesn’t mean that they are lacking in anyway, it just means that there
are moments where you can sing along, and are obviously not just straight
forward rockets to the end. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The album features 17 tracks, and a lot of the band’s hits
come off of t his record, including “Modern Man”, “Anesthesia”, “Flat Earth
Society”, “Faith Alone”, “Against The Grain”, “21st Century (Digital
Boy), and “Walk Away”, all of which are featured on various best of
compilations if you look closer. The band really was onto something with “Against
the Grain” and the whole album flows so well, you’ll be hard pressed not to listen
to the whole thing straight through. Some records are great for streaming just
a few tracks here and there, or adding it to your favorite playlist, but that’s
not the case with this one. You’ll want to listen to the record from start to
finish if you put it on. Don’t worry though, it’s less than 35 minutes of
music, so you won’t be tuning into it for a long period of time, although that’s
the nature of punk rock, isn’t it? Overall, I give “Against the Grain” a 5 out
of 5. <o:p></o:p></p><h4 style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3cFc0Xi" rel="nofollow">Add Bad Religion's "Against the Grain" to your collection by clicking here!</a></h4>Sir Jorge Ordunahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12538889001050034217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2365265692104760539.post-88158767780625560782022-09-02T10:18:00.002-07:002022-09-02T10:18:27.443-07:00Slick Shoes Broadcasting Review <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcVSrYfoLXklOwvY_unjX2jZyfk3RkjWHFq8xupaJX4ucG4UmxOm-mpPdu5z23YPc1GLdHlpjHG8LZ-v9QcRTHJjqWlmW3tTr4E4VRFyo8tPRHnoF3xTlF_4hCqE-3XmG9GIZU_4USW2LW0RUEnSuOJXgPEN6gduTkPQWkknCVGRwbuCB9PSCI0jXCpQ/s500/slickshoesbroadcastingliverecordcover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Slick Shoes Broadcasting Live Record" border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcVSrYfoLXklOwvY_unjX2jZyfk3RkjWHFq8xupaJX4ucG4UmxOm-mpPdu5z23YPc1GLdHlpjHG8LZ-v9QcRTHJjqWlmW3tTr4E4VRFyo8tPRHnoF3xTlF_4hCqE-3XmG9GIZU_4USW2LW0RUEnSuOJXgPEN6gduTkPQWkknCVGRwbuCB9PSCI0jXCpQ/w400-h400/slickshoesbroadcastingliverecordcover.jpg" title="Slick Shoes Broadcasting CD Cover" width="400" /></a></div><br />Rating: 4 out 5<p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I grew up in a religious home and part of my journey
involved not listening to a lot of secular music for a time. While I never
really followed that, it meant that I was always digging through the proverbial
crates looking for anything Christian alternative. That’s where I found Slick
Shoes’ first EP with just a few songs they had me hooked. They would then
release “Rusty” and blow me away with pop punk glory. The band would go on to
put out some quality records, and continue to grow into a pop punk mega power,
even though they seemed to lack that next level success that you’d get from bands
like MXPX or New Found Glory. Regardless of all that, they still managed to put
a staple on the pop punk world, crossing over from Christian music into the
mainstream at times. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">With the 2019 release of “Broadcasting”, the band put together
21 tracks of live music, and it features something from every iteration of the
band’s storied career. There is no wasted moment on the record, not a lot of
banter, and the crew blow through their set with relative ease. They know what
the audience wants and they deliver on it with passion and unique sound. The quality
of the record is good, it sounds great, recorded nicely, and you get a sense of
being there at the House of Blues where it was recorded. Through the 21 tracks,
you are treated to a best of Slick Shoes, and you never end up lacking in the
release. It’s truly a magical record and one that doesn’t get enough praise, if
you ask me. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Live from Chain Reaction in Anaheim California, the band New
Found Glory put on some great performances. The recording took place in 2013,
and was released as a live record and wow, it’s a stellar example of how fun going
to a NFG show truly is. The album features 17 tracks that were performed live,
and 3 studio tracks that were brand new at the time of release. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Overall, this album is stellar, with high production value
for a live record and the all out onslaught of punk rock ethos and hardcore
musical elements that come together for New Found Glory. From the opening lines
of “Understatement”, to “My Friends Over You”, you get a good sense of what went
down on the nights that the band played these tracks. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Of all the live records that you can get your grubby hands
on, you’re going to want to get yourself a taste of New Found Glory, and that’s
what you get with “Kill It Live”. It’s by far one of the better live records
that has been put out by a punk rock band, and well, I for one think it’s
stellar. 20 overall tracks, 17 live tracks, and so much fun, you can’t go wrong
with “Kill It Live”. <o:p></o:p></p>

<a href="https://amzn.to/2HgFYhb" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SyyW8j6nMrg/XVrhJkVOH8I/AAAAAAAAV2c/QK2fJVzR02oIl16VMxX8MZyIVSoNnx_ZACLcBGAs/s320/mxpx_plans_within_plans1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The opening lines from the track <a href="https://amzn.to/2HgFYhb">“Aces Up” reverberates for me a great deal</a>. <i>“If you push yourself away from everyone you know, how do you expect relationships to grow”</i>, and it’s very true. I think about that right now as I type this because I’m going to get a divorce. There’s no happy ever after, there’s just a disaster that I’m facing off against. The song continues to remind us that life doesn’t just deal aces, and that we have to play the cards we are dealt. <br />
<br />
<b>Mxpx</b> released this song as part of their record, “Plans Within Plans” which was put out in 2012, and it’s one of the better tracks from that release. The band’s frenetic punk rock style comes through with melody, and the positivity that comes through is quite good, making your toes tap. <br />
<br />
As soon as I heard this track, I was hooked. Mxpx has a way of getting to the core of your punk rock ethos, and truly delivers with melody. The opening line, I kid you not, is often playing in my head as I battle depression and attempt to get professional help for my issues. The song isn’t too long, and yet it speaks with a sense of urgency, from the opening lines, throughout the rest of song, including the ending which tells us to stand up and fight. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2HgFYhb">Fans of punk rock</a> will denote that the speed and chaos that comes with the genre is found within Mxpx’s “Aces Up”, but it’s in the melody that you find Herrera and the crew once again showing off their best work. “Aces Up” is one hell of a song to get you pumped up, and if you’re dealing with a downside, depressed, or just anxious, maybe this could be the seltzer that is going to give you a second lease on the day. I know it’s a good one for me to run with, even if it’s not the longest song in the world. <br />

Regardless of language, culture, and other things that separate us, music continues to bridge the gap in many instances. It’s for that reason that I have decided to return to this blog. Starting next week sometime, I will be adding more reviews, content, and updates. <br />
<br />
I have purchased a new pair of headphones, booked a trip to Spokane and Las Vegas, and will be listening to a lot more records. Today, for instance, I paid close attention to the discography of The Dropkick Murphys and have found new love for their previous work. I already loved it, but now even more. <br />
<br />
Right now I’m listening to the new Rancid, and will be reviewing that. I’ll also be highlighting any independent artist that I can find, and of course if you drop me a few bucks, I’ll pay attention to you too. If you have emailed me in the past, or currently, I’m going to catch up with your stuff sooner than later. For now, just hold tight as I figure out my next course of action, which will involve a lot more writing, and music recommendations. Of course, you can support this blog by donating to the cause through paypal, message me, or buy something through the amazon links. <br />
<br />
I’ll return, in a few days with a new review, and then just keep posting as fast I can, or whatever it is I do. <br />
<br />
Thanks again for you 2 readers out there. <br />
<br />
I’m back, just don’t call it a comeback, since I never really left.Sir Jorge Ordunahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12538889001050034217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2365265692104760539.post-83469842056605935192016-09-28T15:51:00.001-07:002016-09-28T15:51:59.742-07:00Lucy Gucy Is Your New Favorite Band<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

When I got an email from Tiffany of <a href="http://selloutrecords.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-electrets-dazzle-with-2-new-pop.html">The Electrets</a> fame, I was surprised to know that someone remembered my email, and that I love all things new music. I was informed of a new rock, punk trio named Lucy Gucy. The band is set to release a debut single, “So Good” on 9/29 and I’m already floored by it. The song has a strong guitar rock sound, good percussion, and catchy lyrics. <br />
<br />
Lucy Gucy may be new, but the band already has a sound that mixes The Donnas with The Muffs and throws in a catchy element that you can’t resist. It’s equal parts punk, pop, and alternative into a solid union. There’s a lot of talent here, and you’re going to absolutely love the debut single, and will no doubt want to hear more from the band. <br />
<br />
The band is made up of Tiffany Schirz, Lila Marshall, and Garry Ventura. Together, they have really impressed me, with just one song, and I’m sure the band is going to put out some quality tunes soon enough. <br />
<br />
If you’re in the Los Angeles area, you have to catch them play October 5, at The Silverlake Lounge. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Figures of Light is one of the most prolific bands in music, and they once again push out a series of hits with "Maximum". This record has a lot of layers to it. There are moments that take you to a garage punk sound, surf guitar sound, and 1980s new wave sound and more. There’s a lot to this 5 song release, and it’s something that you’re going to absolutely love if you’re looking for new music. <br />

From the starting line of “Sterling” through “Nowhere/Somewhere” and onto the rest of the record, you find yourself in a kaleidoscope of rock sounds. Think Sonic Youth meets New Order at times, with a balancing act that is hard to really put into one box. Figures of Light balances so much on this record that you truly are going to have a hard time picking out a favorite. “Just Once”, “Maximum”, and “Time Will Tell”, guide you down several alternative rock notes, leaving you to wonder if you’re listening to a compilation from MTV’s “120 Minutes” program. <br />
<br />
With “Maximum” Figures of Light brings on a staggered sound design that is catchy, interesting, and with great balance. All 5 tracks are worthwhile, and bring about a lot of points of interest. For me, this album reminds me of surfing and skateboarding in Santa Monica, California. But for you, it may bring about other memories, as the music really has a way of triggering good times and thoughtful moments. <br />
